The problem this solves
Surface mold on exposed framing, joists, subfloor decking, and structural steel needs to come off the substrate without introducing more moisture into the structure. Wet methods are usually disqualified; dry methods are typically slow.
The honesty point: mold remediation is a containment-and-moisture-control project before it's a cleaning project. The blast scope is necessary but not sufficient — the IEP scopes the work, the remediator owns containment and clearance, and the GC fixes the moisture source.
Why dry ice blasting fits
Dry ice removes surface mold colonies and the underlying soil without adding water to the structure. The substrate dries faster because it wasn't wet to begin with. The contaminant captures into the containment vacuum and ships out per the remediator's protocol.
The blast pass is what makes the eventual clearance test cleaner. It's not a substitute for the IEP-scoped work and clearance protocol — it's the mechanical step that lets the protocol close out.
